Elena Therese is a chronically sick artist and curator living and working in Tiohti:áke (so-called Montreal). They primarily work with graphite and digital text to create drawings that depict fantasy realms centering love, care, compassion, and generosity. Their work explores the direct implications of capitalism and patriarchy in relation to disability and the human body. Therese’s work dreams of liberatory futures informed by disability justice and intersectionality.
Elena Therese holds a BFA in Studio Arts with honors from Concordia University. They have curated several exhibitions at galleries such as Produit Rien and the VAV, as well as participated in group exhibitions at Eastern Bloc, FOFA, and POPUP. As the programming coordinator for the Fine Arts Reading Room from 2023 to 2025, they conceptualized and designed multiple publications. They have also worked as the archivist for Art Matters Festival and curated an exhibition and publication drawn from archival materials and festival ephemera. As a disabled artist, Therese currently works from bed and practices radical slowness as a form of self preservation. They connect with other disabled artists online through their organizational work taking shape as book clubs, talks, and workshops.
